AM I A CANDIDATE FOR COSMETIC TATTOOING?
Medical Guidelines & Candidacy Requirements
Please thoroughly review our medical guidelines below prior to booking your appointment. If you experience any of the conditions listed or require medical clearance, you must contact us and obtain the necessary documentation before scheduling your procedure.
ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATIONS
• Under 18 Years of Age
We do not perform permanent makeup (PMU) or cosmetic medical services on anyone under the age of 18, under any circumstances, even with parental consent.
• Pregnancy or Nursing
The health and safety of your baby are our absolute highest priorities. Because the safety of topical anesthetics and pigments on a developing baby or nursing infant has not been medically established, we strictly decline this service out of an abundance of caution. Additionally, pregnancy-induced hormonal changes drastically alter the body’s chemistry, which severely compromises pigment retention.
• History of Keloid Scarring
The skin puncture process poses a high risk for keloid formation.
• Accutane / Isotretinoin
You must be completely off this medication for a minimum of 6 months (ideally 12 months) before your procedure.
• Active Skin Conditions in the Treatment Area
Includes active eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, open wounds, severe acne, extreme chapping, or undiagnosed rashes directly on the brow or lip area.
• Active Bloodborne Pathogens & Transmittable Conditions
To maintain the highest standards of clinical safety and infection control, we are unable to perform procedures on individuals with active bloodborne pathogens or transmittable conditions (including Hepatitis, HIV, active tuberculosis, etc.). The micro-pigmentation process inherently carries a risk of compromised immune response and delayed healing for these conditions, making the procedure medically UNSAFE.
CONDITIONAL CONTRAINDICATIONS & PRECAUTIONS
• History of Cold Sores / HSV-1 (For Lip Blush)
The micro-trauma of a lip procedure can trigger a latent virus outbreak. Requirement: You must consult your physician for a preventative course of antiviral medication (such as Valtrex) to take both before and after your lip appointment.
• Recent Cosmetic Injections
Lip Fillers: You must wait at least 6 weeks after receiving lip fillers before getting a Lip Blush procedure, and wait 6 to 8 weeks after your Lip Blush procedure before getting lip fillers.
Botox / Dysport: You must wait at least 6 weeks after receiving brow-area injections before getting a Brow procedure to ensure your facial muscles have fully settled.
• Chemical Peels, Retin-A, or Laser Treatments
You must discontinue the use of strong exfoliants (Retinol, Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acids) near the treatment areas for at least 4 weeks prior to your appointment. Avoid lasers and deep chemical peels for 4 weeks before booking.
• Diabetes
Due to slower healing times and increased infection risks, a doctor’s written clearance is required if your condition is uncontrolled.
• Thyroid Conditions (Hypothyroidism / Hyperthyroidism)
A doctor’s written clearance is required prior to booking. Please note that thyroid imbalances and associated medications can directly impact pigment retention and skin sensitivity.
• Cancer / Ongoing Chemotherapy
A doctor’s written clearance is strictly required to ensure your immune system has fully recovered.
• Bleeding Disorders or Blood Thinners
Conditions such as hemophilia, or the daily use of blood-thinning medications (including high-dose aspirin, ibuprofen, or fish oil), require a physician’s note and temporary suspension of the medication if medically approved by your doctor.
• Epilepsy, Autoimmune, or Circulatory Disorders
A doctor’s note is required to ensure the physical stress of the appointment is completely safe for you.
• Uncontrolled High Blood Pressure
Blood pressure must be stable and medically controlled prior to the procedure.
